Prodigious Tuareg guitarist and songwriter Mdou Moctar boldly reforges contemporary Saharan music and “rock music“ by melding Eddie Van Halen pyrotechnics, full-blast noise and guitar shredding, field recordings, drums rhythms, poetic meditations on love, religion, women’s rights, inequality and Western Africa’s exploitation at the hands of colonial powers to rip a new hole in the sky with the Afrique Victime album.
Siaka Diabate is a musician from Burkina Faso. His main instrument is the Kora, a West African harp, which he also made himself. His songs are mainly in Djoula, one of the main languages of Burkina Faso, and he loves singing about the most important thing in the world – love. Together with his group in Ottawa they combine traditional music with modern rhythms and rock the stage! Kora music is beautiful, sometimes calm and perfect for relaxing and sometimes full of energy for dancing!
