From Sacred Site to Industrial Wasteland: Colonialism and Class Struggle in the Chaudière District
September 29 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
This month, the Historical Society of Ottawa and Workers History Museum celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the September 1924 Strike by “Les Allumettières” at Hull’s E.B. Eddy match factory — the first women to stage a labour strike in the province’s history.
To mark this anniversary, two events have been planned for activists and local residents to learn about this landmark strike and another key moment in the early history of the Ottawa-Gatineau labour movement: the 1891 mass strike by 2400 non-unionized saw mill workers in the Chaudière District.
