City in Crisis: Dismantling Myths about the Overdose Epidemic
March 20 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
Free
Increasingly over the past year, conservative and liberal politicians have been manufacturing a moral panic against people who use drugs. Education for Liberation Collective invites you to a community event about the causes of the deadly overdose epidemic as well as actions we can take to help resolve it.
Featuring:
- Leila Attar, organizer, Overdose Prevention Ottawa
- Tanja Vasalic, harm reduction outreach worker
- Alex Fizzard, frontline case manager with lived experience
This panel will challenge many of the myths about the opioid crisis by asking:
- What are the root causes of drug addiction?
- What are the harmful effects of closing safe injection sites?
- How do evidence-based approaches of harm reduction, decriminalization, and safe drug supply work? What concrete actions can we take to support our community members?
We hope to create a space for honest and nuanced conversation about addiction, drug use, and drug policy. Our event will emphasize the need to take action and support local grassroots organizations in solidarity with people who use drugs.
