Kebaowek Algonquin First Nation Takes Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission to Court to STOP the Near Surface Disposal Facility!

As we know, the so-called Near Surface Disposal Facility (NSDF) at Chalk River is actually going to be an above-ground megamound for a million cubic metres of the nuclear industry’s radioactive waste. It’s located is to be less than a kilometre from the Kichi Sibi (Ottawa) River. Kebaowek First Nation says no: it is not a good solution for this toxic waste disposal for MANY reasons, BUT the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) approved it a few months ago with NO independent environmental or expert design assessment!
You are requested to join the Kitchissippi-Ottawa Valley and Ottawa chapters of the Council of Canadians at a support rally for Keboawek, on the opening day of this judicial review hearing:

There will be a media conference, followed by comments from Indigenous and community leaders.
NOTE: This is a FEDERAL COURT hearing but it has just been moved to Supreme Court building.

Miigwechiwendam: so grateful for the courage and determination of the Original Peoples of the Kichi Sibi watershed, who are defending their sacred river for all of us. CNL has to come up with a better design and location AFTER it does valid consultation with the First Nations who have never surrendered their homeland here.
