In Quitting the Master Race, Barbara Leimsner confronts the past to discover how one ordinary man—her adored German papa—became thoroughly indoctrinated with Nazi ideology during the Hitler years. As she weaves together the roots of her shameful inheritance, she also discovers deeper truths about herself—and the cure for hate. This thoughtful, compelling story examines the ever-present threat of racism and far-right ideologies, as well as issues of inter-generational memory, identity, and trauma.
In Gendered Islamophobia, Monia Mazigh describes the struggles faced daily by hijab-wearing Muslim women in Canada, and the assumptions and prejudices which confront them daily in the streets, workplaces, universities, and the media.
The facilitator for the event will be Kevin Skerrett, Adjunct Research Professor in the Institute of Political Economy at Carleton University and former Senior Research Officer for CUPE.
Part of the Authors Unbound literary event series.
